Galacticos sent crashing

NORTH LEGIONNAIRES are the surprise new leaders of the Image Group Premier snooker Division.
Without a match in the first week of the season, they produced crackling form in their double-header second week.
After a 10-2 victory over Ex-Service Hot Butts they followed it up with a first ever success against the champions, Gremlins Galacticos.
The Galacticos can’t look to the absence of Adam Shorto either, as it was his replacement Adrian Trustum who picked up their sole win in a 7-5 reverse.
Tom Brock and Adrian Holley had set the ball rolling for the Legionnaires.
Brock recovered from a perilous position against Glenn Le Prevost in the first frame to steal it, but was hauled back by the left-hander in the next. Brock wasn’t to be denied his win though, sealing it with a tidy little clearance after a fine long brown.
Holley was also to win 2-1 against Adrian Lihou, but will be kicking himself for not taking all three.
His third frame saw him recover from needing two snookers and having got nicely on to the black, missed it to Lihou’s relief.
It was a pattern to be repeated in Trustum’s match against Rick de Garis.
Like Le Prevost, Trustum had wasted a good lead in the first before comfortably taking the second, but de Garis failed with his chances on blue and black that would have cemented the team’s win.
That honour fell to Shaun Mahy, who comfortably took the final frame of the night to seal another personal 2-1 win for the Legionnaires.
Earlier in the week, the Legionnaires dominated from the start to restrict the Hot Butts to two frames.
De Garis compiled a break of 41 to win 2-1 after opponent Clayton Le Noury had drawn level by clearing from the green, and the Hot Butts other frame stemmed from Graham Peel.
Holley bounced back to take the next two against his former team mate, while Brock and Chris Dorey both started their league season with solid performances by not dropping a frame.
The Galacticos had also started their campaign with a 10-2 win before meeting the Legionnaires.
Paul Sarre briefly levelled the match for DWA Mavericks at 1-1 and it wasn’t until the seventh frame that they doubled their score through Ryan Le Page.
Galacticos duo Lihou and Le Sauvage both won without dropping a frame.
Martyn Desperques (pictured) is already the only player to have won six out of six frames.
