THE top division of the new indoor cricket league has got under way and St Pierre find themselves sitting pretty at the top of the table.

Held at the £1m. Indoor Cricket Guernsey centre, which was completed earlier this year, the blacks got a maximum of seven points when they comfortably defeated Grant Thornton in the ICG First Division.

‘That was good. Our guys played well,’ said St Pierre’s GH Smit.

The sport is vastly different to the outdoor version.

Teams are eight-a-side playing on a rectangular court enclosed by a high-tension net.

The matches are 16 overs long and batsmen bat in pairs for four overs.

If a batsman is out, five runs are deducted from the total and they carry on until their allotted overs are up.

As well as aiming for the opposition’s total, each pair of batsmen try and get more runs than their opposing pair.

This is called a ‘skin’ and an extra point is awarded for every ‘skin’ won.

A team also gets three points for the victory.
