CREASEY’S is expanding into the former Woolworths building.

Next year will see women’s clothing and lingerie move from the Smith Street store into the High Street building.

Managing director Tony Creasey said they planned to open up the existing store into the new building. Work has already started on this.

‘We are pleased to announce today that we have managed to lease the former Woolworths building,’ he said.

‘There is some extensive renovation work to be done so it will be some time before we are open. It will be some time during next year. It won’t be the first quarter, it will be later in 2010.’

The Smith Street premises will be transformed into an M&S Homeware store, offering ranges of furniture, kitchenware and bedding not previously available locally.

This year has seen Creasey’s open up a new store in the former Principles and refurbish the original High Street shop.

Mr Creasey said this was an opportunity to develop the business.

‘We think it’s great news for St Peter Port,’ he said.

Good luck to them but I find it quite disappointing to be honest…

We could have done with a bit more variety on the high street… Marks & Spencer are not that cheap either…

Guernsey is crying out for a BHS or a Primark or a Debenhams or the like – at the moment we have not a lot of choice – the High Street will soon look like Fountain Street did with all of the Gabriels shops – only this time its Creaseys!!

Let’s hope that now there’s going to be all this extra Marks & Spencer floor space that Creaseys hire a buyer who is far more fashion conscious. The ladies clothing on the Smith St first floor is terribly frumpy and outdated. When you walk around some of the larger M & S stores in the UK – even Jersey – you can see a far more stylish selection of the clothes that M & S sell in their range.

Glad to see the building use again .I hope they will take pride in this and continue with the floral feel the high street needs to show we are a community and it is important to all as it give shoppers pleasure to go into town to shop in a nice well looked after street.
We look forwards to seeing out town come alive again.all it take is some loving care.

When are people going to realise that a place the size of Guernsey is never going to attract shops like Primark, Debenhams, Bhs or the like. The population is just too small.

    Really Sandy?

Are you sure it’s not just the case that Tony Creasey wants/already has a monopoly on Guernsey’s High Street? After all he managed to put a stop to BHS’s previous attempts to open a branch here, the first of which was proposed in what is presently Marks and Spencers Smith Street outlet….

We don’t need yet another M & S, especially as Rebecca is correct in saying that ladies clothing on offer is frumpy, not at all on trend or fashionable. We’re not all middle aged. Tony Creasey doesn’t care about Guernsey shoppers so long as the bank balance is healthy.

I for one have done my Christmas shopping online this year and I’m sure I’m not alone.
