Bureaucrat must not be allowed to jeopardise Post staff’s jobs
Thursday 15th October 2009, 1:00PM BST.
AN ‘UNELECTED bureaucrat’ must not be allowed to threaten Guernsey Post jobs, says a union leader.
Communication Workers Union branch secretary George Jennings (pictured) said changes suggested by the director-general of the Office of Utility Regulation would result in a reduced service and significant job cuts.
He said industrial relations at Guernsey Post had improved over the last seven years because of the good relationship between both the trade union and management.
‘To have all this good work threatened is unacceptable to the CWU and should be to the people of Guernsey,’ he said.
The OUR has been reviewing the service and has produced a consultation document.
Director-general John Curran said it was working on a draft decision, which would be made public soon.
‘There will be an opportunity for all interested parties to comment at that stage,’ he said.
The Guernsey branch of the Communication Workers Union has called on the regulator not to change the current reserved sector.
