VEHICLE parts that were dumped at Le Grantez Mill, Castel, have now been taken away by the douzaine.

Seventeen old wheels and tyres were abandoned on the parish land last week.

Castel senior constable Barry Paint feared that the cost of disposing of them would have to come out of the parish rates, but local company Target said it would take them for free.

‘It is disgraceful that someone has dumped them here,’ said Deputy Paint.

‘It would have been £5 to get rid of each tyre and it just wouldn’t have been fair on the parishioners because the money would have had to come out of the rates.’

A resident of the area rang Deputy Paint on Thursday about the dumping at the site, where there are the remains of a former windmill.

The douzaine also received additional calls about the problem.

Deputy Paint said they had experienced other problems in the area with people leaving rubbish and dumping waste.

‘Some kids do come around here and we always see bottles and things left around,’ he said.‘Once we found an old sofa, but managed to get rid of it.

‘It’s just the time it takes and the extra work for everyone. I’m going to come down with a trailer tomorrow to pick the tyres up. If I didn’t do it, then the parish would have to pay someone to,’ he said yesterday.
