Thursday 22nd October 2009, 2:29PM BST.

Heather WatsonHEATHER WATSON agonisingly lost a third-set tiebreak yesterday as her run in the Aegon Pro Series Glasgow singles event ended.

The Sarnian came up against Selima Sfar from Tunisa in the first round of the main draw at the $25,000 tournament and lost in a very tight match 2-6, 6-2, 6-7.

‘The opponent’s 15 years’ extra experience counted – but this was a great experience for Heather,’ said her father Ian yesterday.

There was better news in the doubles, though, as Watson and her partner Naomi Cavaday defeated fellow Britons Hannah Hume and Samantha Vickers 6-2, 6-2.

They now face Evelyn and Julia Mayr from Italy in the quarter-finals.
