THE UK would be willing to talk to Guernsey if the island wanted greater autonomy, it was confirmed yesterday.

‘The issue of independence and constitutional reform is a matter for each of the Crown Dependencies,’ said a Ministry of Justice spokesman.

‘The Government will always consider any suggestions as and when it is asked to do so by the respective island’s government.’

The UK’s Justice Committee is already reviewing the relationship between the MoJ and the Crown Dependencies.

Its inquiry will look at how the UK Government represents the Crown Dependencies internationally, the role of the MoJ and any changes needed to improve its management.

All evidence needed to be submitted by the beginning of October.

Advocate Roger Perrot, who organised a meeting last week to discuss the independence issue, has sent proposals to Chief Minister Lyndon Trott asking him and the Policy Council to take the matter to the States.

    Always willing to talk?

    No surprise, there, really, if the UK can disassociate themselves from the offshores and the increasingly awkward position that our Tax status is putting them in with the rest of the world, the quicker they can join their ‘let’s bash the offshores’ club and save face.

    Are we not just playing into their hands with this?

    This I will say Scarlett,

    They speak as the Indians told them centuries ago;

    “You speak with a forked tongue”
    Or more like we all know:

    “The ways of the ungodly, shall be punished”

    Marvellous isn’t;

    when criticized; and rightly so for all the world travelling by the CM; he according to the “Press” declined to answer.
    He should, be duty bound to tell the people of his exploits and what gain is there for Guernsey.

    Who the ‘L’ does he think he is?

    The sooner they get rid of him and his likes the better place will Guernsey become.
