Summer show organisers eye a 3,000 crowd
Tuesday 27th October 2009, 2:30PM GMT.
A DATE has been set for an open-air boxing show next summer that is expected to attract a Muratti-size crowd.
Following Saturday’s night sell out Open Show, the event will take place on Saturday 17 July on Bels’ home ground – the Track.
It is anticipated that more than 3,000 people will go to watch the Amalgamated Boys Club take on a North of England select.
‘It’s not been done for years and years,’ said Guernsey’s head boxing coach Graham Guilbert (pictured). ‘We’ve been talking about it for two years now, off and on. It was about getting the right venue.
‘[Bels chairman] Hilary Sarre approached us and we went down there and had a look. He’s going hell for leather for it.’
Guilbert explained that a covered ring will be set up on the centre circle.
There will be a couple of long marquees and there will also be uncovered seating.
Tickets will go on sale about six weeks before the show and will be available from a number of outlets.
