GUERNSEY speed windsurfer Martyn Ogier has broken into the world’s top 20 after a brilliant showing during the Weymouth International Speed Week.
Back in the 1980s and 90s, the Sarnian was consistently placed in the top five in the world.
After a 12-year break, he returned to action this year and took part in the ISWC Speedsurf World Cup at Devil’s Bay in Karpathos.
His latest competition in Weymouth saw him come fourth in a very strong field.
‘It’s great [to break into the top 20],’ he said.
‘It’s where I want to be – getting back to the top. This competition showed me that I’ve got what it takes.’
The event took place in Portland Harbour, which is going to be the main sailing area for the 2012 Olympics.
