Simpson ready to face Ashour

Thursday 29th October 2009, 2:30PM GMT.

Chris SimpsonCHRIS SIMPSON will have to overcome ‘the most talented player on tour’ if he is to progress beyond the first round of the World Open.

The Guernseyman faces Hisham Mohd Ashour, the older brother of defending champion Ramy, in the Professional Squash Association Tour’s biggest event on Sunday.

However, Simpson, pictured, fancies his chances of causing a major upset against the Egyptian No. 21 seed in the $277,500 tournament at the Green Island Resort in Kuwait.

‘He is known as the most talented player on tour because he is unbelievably skilful with the racket, but he is basically not very fit,’ said the Sarnian.

‘He can beat people in 20 minutes sometimes with his array of shots, but if you can get into him and get him moving then he is beatable.

‘My plan is to contain him and stop him playing his attacking shots and then counterattack, if I can do that well enough.’
