ISLANDERS had a chance to look around the new eco-friendly housing development at Victoria Avenue on Saturday.

They were impressed by the high levels of insulation, draught-proofing and solar panels used to provide hot water and heating.

A total of 58 homes are being built in phases at a development called Sir John Leale Avenue.

The first partial ownership residents have already moved into their homes, which are claimed to halve energy bills.

Dorothy Lord, 44, said the facilities in the new homes were fantastic.

‘The gardens are very big,’ she said. ‘And I think it is great that they have tried to make them as eco-friendly as possible.

‘They are really spacious.’

Mrs Lord went to the open day with her husband.

‘I think more people should start considering using the eco-friendly facilities such as they have here.’

All the houses have been built with triple-glazing and walls with extra insulation.

They have mobility access, with wider doorways and shower rooms.
