Priaulx and Button fall at the last

Wednesday 4th November 2009, 2:29PM GMT.

Andy PriaulxTHE Race of Champions Nations Cup in Beijing’s impressive Bird’s Nest stadium came down to a deciding race between Andy Priaulx and Michael Schumacher yesterday.

Priaulx (pictured) partnered the newly crowned F1 champion Jenson Button in Team Autosport GB.

They reached the final in which they came up against Team Germany’s Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who had won the title for the previous two years.

And, unfortunately for Priaulx, the legendary seven-time Formula One champion, held his nerve to claim the honours on the twisty and icy track as Beijing witnessed its earliest winter snow storm in 20 years.

But Guernsey’s three-time World Touring Car champion enjoyed the experience.

‘What a great evening we have had,’ he said.

‘It would have been nice to beat the Germans, but when you are against such opposition it is pretty formidable. The atmosphere was electric.’
