GUERNSEY windsurfer James Briggs has been crowned British champion.

The 34-year-old gave up his job in finance and spent the summer competing around Europe, which included the World Championships in Spain last month.

Last weekend he was in Weymouth to take part in the formula class of the UKWA British Open Championships.

And when the event was reduced to two races due to storm-like conditions, Briggs took them both to claim the national honours.

‘It was a really, really good ending to the season and I’m delighted to have done so well in that particular event,’ he said.

‘I beat guys who have beaten me before. I feel like I’ve made some good progression.

‘It means that the time I’ve spent in Europe has really paid off.’
