LAST weekend was a learning curve for Guernsey in the national basketball league.

The Greens had been on a high after winning their first two matches in Division Four South West at the start of last month.

On their national league debut, they defeated Bristol Storm 74-67 before getting the better of Cornwall Cougars 54-37.

But they came crashing down to earth on Saturday as they lost to the league’s best outfit, Team Solent, and then to the University of Chichester Thundercats the next day.

However, according to the island side’s player-assistant coach Nigel Govett, it was not all bad.

‘It was the perfect learning weekend, but the worst weekend for results,’ he said.

‘It was disappointing, but it was something that we had to go through. If we had won these two games our attitude wouldn’t be right going into Christmas, but it now gives us the chance to go away and work on things that we need to work on.

‘If we didn’t have the ability, it’d be a worry. But it’s about putting it together and doing the basics right.’
