‘Miss Guernsey 2010 will go ahead’

Richard BrebanPOSTPONING the Miss Guernsey competition until the start of next year was the right thing to do, the president of the South Show has said.

Prior to the fall out between Carlton owner John Carpenter and his former manager, Elvio Pires, the event had been scheduled to take place in August.

But the dispute about who should stage the pageant meant the event was not staged .

South Show president Richard Breban (pictured) said Mr Carpenter had asked for his advice about when to hold it.

The show passed over the rights to hold the competition when its committee downsized several years ago.

‘He made the right decision not to hold it before the end of the year – it would have been rushed,’ said Mr Breban.

‘He can start afresh in the new year and it will enable Miss Guernsey 2010 to attend events in the same year that she will be crowned.’

Mr Breban said the South Show would only take the pageant on again if Mr Carpenter was unable to do it – either the show would do it or it would find someone else to host it.
