GUERNSEY’S Bailiff was knighted yesterday.

Sir Geoffrey Rowland received the honour from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

He was accompanied by Lady Rowland and their sons, Peter and John.

Sir Geoffrey said it had been a truly memorable occasion.

‘I have been overwhelmed by expressions of support from so many members of our community who wrote to me, sent me cards and stopped me in the street,’ he said.

The Bailiff was included in the Queen’s birthday honours in June.

‘It was a proud moment to be representing Guernsey this morning – that is the way I see it, as an honour conferred on our community,’ he said afterwards.
