THE state of a coastal car park is putting people off going there, according to one of its regular users.

Retired koi farm owner Pat Donaldson, 69, called for something to be done.

‘My wife uses a wheelchair and we go in our car so we can sit and have a cup of coffee and look at the view of the islands as it is one of the few places we can,’ he said.

‘You go to look at the view and what you see is such a disgrace.’

The potholes have become so deep that the couple’s Renault Kangoo rocked a great deal which made it very hard for his wife in her wheelchair in the back and for him to drive.

‘It is a low-slung car and is not designed for those sort of bumps,’ he said.

‘A lot of old people go there to watch the boats, but it is becoming dangerous.’

An Environment spokesman said there would be no repairs to the site this year.

‘The department regrets the inconvenience to drivers caused by the unsatisfactory surface of the Bordeaux car park, which has been exacerbated by recent heavy rain. The department’s budget for repairs in 2009 is now fully spent.’

i don’t know about the potholes, but a Renault Kangoo cannot be described as ‘low-slung’

pyer – I had to re-read that bit too, but I concluded that maybe this particular Kangoo had been customised to make it wheelchair accessible.
