IT MAY have been an ‘in-house game’, but Sylvans boss Clive Bateman was just pleased to have a match as his side comfortably overcame their second team in the guise of Rocquaine Pirates in the first round of the Guernsey FA Cup at a wet and windy St Peter’s on Saturday.
‘It’s always a big issue [when you play a side from the same club], but it’s been a few weeks since we last played,’ said Bateman.
‘Obviously, the conditions weren’t the best to try and play good football in. We wanted to try and concentrate on doing the right things more than worry about the score-line as we’ve got some big games coming up in December.
‘It’s good that our name is in the hat for the next round.’
