THE charge against Alan Baker, who is in custody accused of causing grievous bodily harm, has been upgraded to manslaughter by police following the death of Gary Allen.

Mr Allen, 46, died in Southampton General Hospital on Friday night from head injuries sustained outside the Albion House Tavern on Wednesday at 5.30pm.

Mr Baker, 23, reserved his plea to the GBH charge last week.

He is due to reappear in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police said yesterday that witnesses to the alleged attack have been coming forward.

‘The investigation is progressing well with a range of specialist officers involved such as investigators, forensic officers, incident room staff and family liaison officers supporting relatives,’ said Inspector Trevor Coleman.
