Take-out boss is found guilty

Tuesday 1st December 2009, 2:29PM GMT.

A GUILTY verdict was delivered on a take-away boss who denied being involved in importing heroin.

Dejan Vasic, 30, was found guilty of being knowingly concerned in two counts of importing heroin into Guernsey in October and December 2008.

The jurats reached a unanimous verdict.

He was remanded in custody for sentencing on 11 December.

In the original hearing, held in November, the Royal Court heard how Vasic had forged two cheques from the Route 66 takeaway bank account to withdraw money.

He was running the takeaway but told the court that his father had to counter-sign the cheques.

His father denied that he had signed them.

The defendant had been asked to explain what withdrawals of £5,000, £3,000 and £1,000 from the business account had been used for.

He could not recall what the first sum was for but claimed that the other two had been paid out to his former wife.

A probation report was ordered.

* Vasic’s co-accused, Nikolett Nemeth, 19, and Krisztian Lulay, both admitted their parts in the importation. Nemeth had given evidence against Vasic earlier in the trial.
