‘Rain is a nightmare’

GUERNSEY footballers are re-living pre-season as the rain-driven fixtures nightmare continues.

But there is no crisis, says the GFA fixtures secretary, Garry Cortez (pictured).

‘There is no crisis because all the fixtures have been rearranged,’ he said.

‘We’ve had to extend the season and in that sense we’ve not got a problem.

‘We’d have a problem if we lose all of December, but I don’t think that will happen. It’d be nice to play to play some football but you can’t do anything about the weather. It’s an amateur sport and you’ve got to think about people’s safety.’

The UK has just witnessed the wettest November since records began in 1914.

There were only two dry days throughout the month in Guernsey and a total of more than 234mm of rain fell, way above the average of 97mm.

And things do not look set to get any better as rain is forecast every day for the next 10 days.

I share their frustration, I’ve been trying to mow the lawn for donkeys now and every time I think about getting the mower out it starts bloney raining again!!

It effected everyone to a degree, some more then others i.e those wanting to engage in outdoor activities throughout the autumn and winter months. I’m assuming global warming is responsible for the well above average rainfall. The extremes in weather caused by this is something I’m afraid to say we’re all going to have to get used to! here’s to a dry and still December, an advanced look on metcheck though says we are far from it.

I had a nightmare about rain once.
I dreamt it was raining footballs.
I couldn’t mow the lawn for weeks because of all the referees blowing their whistles for offside.
