Tribal ‘on wrong route’

TRIBAL Consulting made a mistake by recommending a full review of bus services before going out to open tender for a new contract to start in 2012, according to the Bus Users’ Group.
It should have focused instead on the potential for a new operator to take on the service in 2017.
However, the Environment Department has labelled the group’s spokesman as ‘ill informed’.
Bus Users’ Group representative Fergus Dunlop said it would be incredibly difficult for another operator to compete against Island Coachways for the 2012 contract.
‘Tribal clearly has not realised that Island Coachways holds the trump card – the former tram shed lease – until 2016,’ he said.
‘What operator would bid against that? Could an operator find and acquire a site for an alternative bus depot, gain planning permission and build the thing by 2012?
‘Tribal expects a competitive tender for the 2012 bus contract to flush out a counter-bidder able to operate Guernsey’s buses. And it expects this counter-bidder to come in cheaper than Island Coachways.’

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
This is a strange one as if they lose the right to operate then they will probably go bust therefore lose the depot, sell off buses to who?
We are not the size of the UK whereby an operator can come from another location but are Tribal local…guess not from their “lets put down stuff that happens in the UK ” and “get paid for it” report
Surprised they did not suggest a party political system…Labour and Monster Raving LP

PC, a couple of points …
First, the States own the buses, not Coachways.
Second, I would hope that Coachways would continue running their coach operations from the Tramsheds, same as they have for years ( and long before they started bus services )….. otherwise I don’t know how my kids are going to get to school in the mornings …..
The point still stands that anyone else tendering would have to have some other premises to operate from – at least in the short term and probably in the long term as well
