ISLANDERS studied some of the Guernsey Tomorrow ideas at Checkers yesterday.
The exhibition lays out suggestions culled from 700 islanders who put forward their ideas for the future of Guernsey in the Policy Council strategic land planning group initiative.
The ideas provoked a mixed response. Retired deputy Ron Le Moignan, 73, said many of them had been discussed before but not implemented.
‘I am disappointed that there aren’t more people coming down,’ he said.
‘I think a lot can be done. I think they should put a roof on the arcade – after all, that was what was originally designed for it. Also an atrium on Market Square and maybe some more small-car parking spaces.’
Mum Sue Solway, 51, said the display was interesting.
‘I think they should do something about the Markets,’ she said. ‘It does seem to have lost its soul. I think it is a good thing that Leale’s Yard is going ahead. Town needs competition.’
