ROADWORKS in Cornet Street could not have come at a worse time for the National Trust Victorian Shop and Parlour, according to manageress Elizabeth Lihou.

The shop opened for the Christmas season yesterday but she is worried that roadworks could be putting customers off.

‘The workers did stop while Lady Malbon opened the shop, but it is right outside,’ she said.

‘It could not be in a worse place or at a worse time.’

The shop is open for just nine days during December. The roadworks are not due to be completed until half-way through the month, affecting more than half of those days.

‘We have school groups coming and people love the nostalgia,’ she said. ‘But they do like to park outside and right now there is hardly any parking. We are very concerned.’
