Kirsty Jackson, of Blanchelande Girls’ College, James Robson, of Elizabeth College, and Alex Masterson, of The Grammar School, won a competition after writing the best blog at this year’s IoD debate.
The sixth form students will now go to the National IoD Annual Convention in London in April.
Mr Masterson, who will study economics at university, said it had been interesting to see how decisions were made – and influenced.
‘It was a bit different to what I had been expecting. It was a lot more relaxed and there were more jokes. I especially enjoyed the parts about Guernsey government, which was the last of the four topics,’ he said.
Mr Robson was most interested in the economics debate and relationship between the islands. He agreed the evening was less serious than he had anticipated.
He said they took notes on the night then had a week to condense five hours of debating into an 800-word piece.
‘I approached it quite systematically, adding in quotes,’ said Mr Robson.
The competition was launched by De Putron Fund Management (Guernsey) Ltd.
