‘Teething troubles’ with Health’s new £9.7m. computers

The Accident and Emergency department at the PEH was the first area to go live with the new Trak Care computer system.
HEALTH is experiencing teething problems with its new computer system.
The £9.7m. electronic health and social care records project went live at the end of October.
‘Inevitably there have been some teething problems, but these are being prioritised and dealt with. These range from people forgetting passwords to printing and reporting issues,’ said a Health and Social Services spokesman.
‘While training was given to all 590 staff before they were given a password, it is not until people use the system day-to-day that they fully appreciate all of its details. To help these staff a number of project staff, including support from the suppliers, went to each section during its “go live” to make sure the implementation went smoothly.’
The TrakCare system was a year late, but because it was a fixed-priced contract remained on budget.
Accident and emergency at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital was the first area to go live, with the child health system being the last during this phase.
‘Staff who have trained the users have also been visiting wards and clinics over the last month to help people and to check that they are comfortable using the system,’ said the spokesman.
