GUERNSEY’S ActionAid branch raised £43,000 last year – more than any other in the country.
The charity’s UK fund-raising director Richard Turner has been visiting the island.
‘There is a real sense of community here and that seems to be key to local success,’ he said.
‘The Guernsey group raises a lot more than any of our other groups and may even be top in the world. There is something very special here.’
ActionAid first came to Guernsey in 1982 and in that year £2,000 was raised.
Current chairman Glyn Allen has been with the group for more than 20 years.
‘Over the years we have raised more than £500,000,’ he said. ‘It all comes down to the volunteers, who are all very committed.’
