Monday 14th December 2009, 2:31PM GMT.

Firefighters arrived at the former Kailana Stores, Bailiff’s Cross Road, to find that the blaze had already taken hold. One firefighter was injured by falling debris as they tackled the fire but despite their efforts the property was left too dangerous for investigators to enter. (Picture by Sam Field, 0888781)
AN ELDERLY couple had to be evacuated from their home as fire destroyed the property next door.
Reg and Rose Le Flocq, were upstairs in bed in their terraced cottage at Bailiff’s Cross Road, St Andrew’s, on Saturday night when a neighbour phoned to say that they had to get out because the next door neighbour’s was on fire.
Mr Le Flocq, 81, said he was helping his disabled wife on to her stair lift when somebody began knocking on the door. The Le Flocqs were still in their nightclothes.
