A SUGGESTION that a Channel Islands foreign minister be created has potential, a member of Guernsey’s External Relations Group said yesterday.

Dave Jones said he thought the group would discuss the concept.

‘I think it has got merit and we should examine what the possibilities are,’ he said.

‘The attention that has been turned on us internationally is not going to get any less.

‘I imagine that our staff will have picked up on it and it will be put as a general item on the agenda. Why would we not discuss it? It’s what the group is all about.’

Former Jersey chief minister Frank Walker (pictured) floated the idea while speaking at this week’s Chamber of Commerce lunch.

He said Guernsey and Jersey could share the position and Deputy Jones agreed.
