Le Sauvage joins the club with first century break

THE year could not have started in much better fashion for Paul Le Sauvage.
Over the last five years or so, Martyn Desperques and Adam Shorto had hogged the supply of century breaks on local baize, but it was Gremlin Galactico Le Sauvage (pictured) who hit the headlines back in January with a magnificent 106 clearance.
It was his first competitive ton and the achievement amazed the player himself.
‘I’m not generally renowned as a break-builder and given the fact that I hadn’t made a ton [in practice] for so long, I’m amazed I managed to hold myself together as well as I did towards the end of the break,’ he said.
The impressive clearance came in an Image Group Premier Division match against North Legionnaires and it was far from straightforward – Le Sauvage had to double the penultimate red to keep the break going.
At the end of the season, Le Sauvage was awarded the Merit Trophy by the GB&SA executive committee for both his break and his subsequent brilliant win in the snooker Upton.
