PLANS are in place for a football match between two schools linked by the Occupation to become a regular fixture.
Earlier this week, the Grammar School hosted a game with Oldham Hulme Grammar School, which looked after the school’s evacuees during the Second World War, in a bid to re-establish links between the two.
It also invited along former students who stayed at Hulme during the war.
One of those was former States member Ron Marquis, 77, who was in Lancashire from 1942.
‘This brings back memories of our time in Oldham and how good the people of Oldham were to us,’ said Mr Marquis.
‘We went to the cinema, we watched Oldham Athletic play and we went to the local swimming baths, all free of charge and just because we were evacuated. Under the circumstances, we had a good life.’
