The story of how the St Martin’s ground was made unplayable by seagulls as they ripped the ground apart looking for worms went national on the main BBC website earlier this month.
If you Google ‘Blanche Pierre Lane’ and ‘seagulls’, you will get close to 50 results as the quirky story has been picked up by numerous other media outlets.
More than £1,200-worth of damage was done and it has not seen any action for the last couple of weeks.
However, the ground did host an under-16 match this week, but today Saints are due to meet league leaders Bels on it.
‘We’re going to try and cut it this afternoon, but it’s very wet,’ said Saints president Henry Davey.
‘It’s unbelievably bare. We can’t turf it because it’s too cold.
‘There’s no divots where they’ve taken the grass out. There’s just nothing there.’
Davey said that if it is judged too bad to be played on, the match will be played on their second pitch.
