Skatepark ‘will roll them in’

Youngsters started a petition 20 years ago to get a skatepark built and permission has finally been granted for one at Beau Sejour. (0890603)
Organisers of major UK competitions had already expressed interest in holding an event in the island, he said.
‘There is already talk that the last leg of a UK competition will be held here, which shows that they are confident the facilities here will be up to scratch and to the same as the UK standard,’ he said.
‘A UK skateboard magazine may also be doing a cover story on the new park here – this is really quite a big thing for us.’
After years of temporary ramps at various venues, permission to build a proper skatepark at Beau Sejour has finally been granted by the Environment Department.
The GXSA is now putting together more detailed plans to ascertain the full cost, estimated at £200,000 – but Mr de la Mare said it could be more.
