Worries over UK health agreement over, says Health
Saturday 19th December 2009, 2:29PM GMT.
ISLANDERS have become accustomed to the loss of the Reciprocal Health Agreement, according to Health and Social Services.
A department spokesman said the number of enquiries about the new system had fallen.
‘In the first few weeks after the RHA ended, the HSSD received a considerable number of enquiries relating to the implications of Bailiwick residents being injured or taken ill in the UK, or UK residents being injured or taken ill in the Bailiwick,’ he said.
‘However, it is now eight months further on and the number of enquiries has reduced considerably.
‘As far as we are aware, most people have been able to make appropriate arrangements for health and travel insurance.’
Before the agreement ended on 1 April, HSSD tried to inform islanders about the changes.

As a guernseyman and having paid taxes and insurance all of my working life (25 years up until i left in 2006)in guernsey. I left the island to live and work in england, unfortunately i found myself out of work and tried to claim for some benefit, jobseekers allowance at the very least. this however seemed to be too much to ask for as i was told that i had not enough contributions in england to support any payment in claim . I had so many meetings and discussions about this that it drive me to distraction, i was led to believe that there was an agreement between guernsey and uk governments that transfer contributions, even now i do not know if this is the case as thankfully i am fully employed. but for two periods totalling over one year i did not recieve one penny in benefit from the uk government and put mysekf and my partner in considerable debt. How is it that any tom , dick or harry can come to the uk and claim benefit/clothing/housing and i a british man cannot claim a single penny? even now it still maked me mad though i am working. anyone care to enlighten me?
