GUERNSEY fast bowler Jamie Nussbaumer is hoping to force his way into the Sussex county second team by training at the county’s winter academy in South Africa.

The 22-year-old (pictured) has been asked to attend a month-long intensive training course, which gets under way at the beginning of February at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.

Teenage Sarnian quick bowler Will Peatfield has also been invited to the camp that will include Sussex captain Mike Yardy and the county’s former England seamer, James Kirtley.

‘I can’t wait, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,’ said Nussbaumer (pictured) yesterday.

‘Being one of 11 which includes Mike Yardy and James Kirtley, is a great opportunity and it’s also bit nerve wracking. Hopefully, there’s a chance of second team cricket next year.’

The county’s second team coach, Mark Davis, is to run the camp which also includes the up-and-coming Matt Machan, who scored 151 for the Sussex Academy against Guernsey at the County Ground, Hove, in 2008.
