Take care at Christmas, warns taxi attack woman

Thursday 24th December 2009, 2:30PM GMT.

Taxi warningA WOMAN who claims she was raped in a taxi is warning others to be careful when taking a cab at Christmas.

She said her attacker could still be working as he had not been prosecuted after DNA results delivered nothing.

‘I didn’t get the justice I deserved through lack of DNA evidence, but if I can help girls be safe over the Christmas season my intense trauma would not have all been for nothing.’

Superintendent Ian Morellec said while it was inappropriate for him to comment on detail on the incident referred to, he endorsed the public safety message she was seeking to get over.

‘I would like to assure islanders that complaints of this nature are always taken very seriously and a structure is put in place to support the ongoing needs of any victim.’

Guernsey Taxi Federation president Mike Mauger said that the conduct described was absolutely unacceptable and drivers would actively do all they could to help the police.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said her ordeal happened after she got a taxi alone after midnight on 15 October.

She said she wanted her story to be known because she wanted to warn others to be extremely careful.
