All-rounder Frith shows just why he is ‘Mr Cricket’

Jeremy FrithJEREMY FRITH is not known as Guernsey’s Mr Cricket for nothing.

To say the man lives, sleeps and breathes his sport is almost an understatement.

Much to the benefit of the island side, though, he is also rather good at it as two player-of-the-tournament awards at successive ICC World Cricket League events prove.

Frith’s performances in Division Seven in Guernsey and Division Six held in Singapore emphasise that the best step up to the plate when it matters most.

He was the top scorer in both events, with 381 runs including two centuries and two fifties from six innings in his home tournament and then 374 including a hundred and four fifties in seven in Singapore.

By any standards that is outstanding and, as anyone who saw the highly impressive Bahrain side play here will testify, the opposition were certainly no mugs.

Frith (pictured) also did his bit with the ball, claiming 15 wickets with his left-arm spin in Division Seven and a further nine in the following tournament.

These performances made the GCA player of the year award a foregone conclusion and GCA president Mark Latter, who is also the GCB chief executive, got his appraisal of Frith spot on.
