The Daily Telegraph’s front-page story yesterday said that senior police and security advisors had serious concerns over the security arrangements in the Indian capital and had advised Commonwealth Games England not to send a team.
The island is looking to send its largest number of competitors to the Games and Dale Garland will be among them.
Guernsey’s greatest-ever athlete, who was selected for Great Britain for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, has taken the threat in his stride.
‘It’s one of those things,’ he said.
‘There are certainly places where you go where you’ve got to be more cautious, but I don’t think you can’t go and not carry on your career.’
Garland is set to compete in the 400m hurdles and as part of the 4x400m relay squad.
Guernsey’s quartet qualified for Delhi after a stunning performance in the Island Games in Aland during the summer.
