PEOPLE in the north of the island could soon be able to pop into their own local police station.

The small interpretation centre opposite the North Side chip shop could be turned into a base from where the area’s community police team can work with the public.

Community officer PC Karl Addis is behind the initiative.

‘It hasn’t been used for about three or four years.

‘It belongs to States Property Services so we asked if we could use it on a yearly basis,’ he said.

The building, which is effectively just one room, would be rent-free, but the police would have to maintain it and pay for electricity.

‘This is for the local community of St Sampson’s and the Vale – so rather than having to go into Town they can come here,’ he said.

‘We are looking at doing a police surgery twice a week for two hours at a time.’

So… is this somebodies idea of a joke we can talk to the Police in an ex Ladies toilet on the bridge.. Surely there must be something better than that avaiable what is the island coming to when we have serious suggestions like this… maybe they could also utilse the underground bogs in Market Square as well

Definition of an “Interpretation centre” A single room Building. Sark has the smallest Jail in the Channel Islands Guernsey has the smallest Police station. Albeit an ex Ladies conveince which i beleive had a couple of extra rooms ( Lanes) What a King size Joke or maybe it should be Queen ( ladies ) I thought that the Station was going to be on the south side in the harbourmasters building that was all the gossip a few years back

The poor beleagured police can’t win can they. If they have no presence the outraged brigade start whining, if they have a presence the outraged brigade start whining.

A shelter/mini office on the Bridge is a fine idea. Presence being a deterrent and all that.
