We took our eye off the ball
Saturday 2nd January 2010, 2:30PM GMT.
THE club secretary is the latest casualty in the crisis surrounding Northerners Football Club.
Steve Park (pictured), who has filled the role for the past three years, has signalled his intention to quit from Monday, and admitted that the club had been poorly steered in recent times.
‘Everybody [at North] to a greater or lesser degree should take responsibility,’ said Park, who added he could be persuaded to do a U-turn, but that depended on the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting of players and committee after the Clydesdale International FA Cup game against Rangers at Northfield.
‘In my personal opinion we took our eye off the ball,’ he said.
Park, who was previously a long-serving referee, fired a verbal salvo at the island players, Glyn Dyer and Craig Young, who have savaged the club with criticism while seeking a pre-deadline transfer.
‘I do agree with you in a sense that the club have to accept some moral obligation and responsibility, but you don’t change anything by changing clubs,’ he said.
‘They should have come to us as a group.’
