End of road for minor sports?

Judo is one of the sports that could be dropped from the Island Games.
BOWLS, judo and squash could get the chop for good as the Island Games looks to cap the number of its sports.
One of the main areas of concern with the biennial Games is that is it is becoming too big and islands are finding it increasing difficult to host them.
In the first Games in 1985 in the Isle of Man there were 700 competitors from 15 islands taking part in seven sports.
At last year’s Games in Aland, there were approximately 2,400 sportsmen and women from 25 islands competing in 15 sports.
The executive committee of the International Island Games Association have prepared a consultation paper, which they have sent to their member islands to discuss and provide feedback.
One of the suggested options was to run the football competition, which is the Games’ largest participation sport, as a separate event.
The chairman of the Guernsey Football Association, Mark Le Tissier, knocked this back.
Another idea was to reduce the number of member sports from 18 to 14 by getting rid of bowls, judo, squash and gymnastics, which Guernsey does not compete in.
