MANY people run a marathon in memory of a loved one, but father of two Paul Smith, 37, has devised a new endurance event for himself and others.

The 10 Peaks Challenge, created in memory of Mr Smith’s late father, will be held on 31 July around the Lake District.

It could become an annual event.

‘I have been planning to do this since about August,’ said Mr Smith. ‘I am doing it in the memory of my father, who died in July.

‘One of the reasons for doing a trek to help raise money for charity is that my father loved walking and we used to go often with him and he loved the Lake District.’

Mr Smith’s father, John, died of cancer three weeks before his 62nd birthday.
