‘Victim should not have to pay’

Friday 8th January 2010, 2:29PM GMT.

Pat Le GallezA STATES tenant whose window was smashed by brick-throwing yobs twice in six months will have to pick up the bill again.

And his neighbours on the Couture Close fear that the antisocial behaviour is tarnishing a previously peaceful estate.

Disabled resident Alan Peskey, 56 (pictured), and his father Leslie Peskey, 83, who has cancer, were watching television in their front room on Monday night when their window exploded into shards of glass.

The brick struck the son on the head but he was unhurt. Neither man saw who threw it.

Neighbours who heard the noise quickly arrived on the scene to help safely clear up the mess.

Police organised for the window to be boarded up but a spokesman for the Housing Department insisted that tenants should pay for any repairs.

Pat Le Gallez, 74 (pictured) , lives opposite the Peskeys and said she could not understand why they were being targeted.

‘They are very vulnerable,’ she said.

‘Leslie would not hurt a fly. He is as good as gold to everybody and Alan is the same.

‘He would do anything you ask of him. He shouts at them but he would not hurt anybody. It is just unfair and I wish I could do something to help.’
