ABOUT 50 homes lost power for two hours yesterday after a States contractor struck an electricity cable.
A 64-year-old man suffered a severe electric shock and burns to his hands and face when his pneumatic jackhammer hit the low-voltage cable.
The incident happened at Salerie Corner at about 11.30am.
Homes in Les Canichers were affected by the blackout, according to Guernsey Electricity’s engineering director Steve Morris.
‘There was some power loss,’ he said.
‘It was a low-voltage cable, which mainly supplies domestic homes. Businesses in the area were largely unaffected.’
The power was restored to most homes by 1.30pm.
