Saturday 9th January 2010, 2:30PM GMT.

Alison MerrienALISON MERRIEN and her husband Ian are moving ‘Down Under’ to train for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The Commonwealths are being held in Delhi in early October and Guernsey’s bowls superstar Alison (pictured) along with Ian, who is also a top international, are aiming to be there.

If selected, it will be the Merriens’ fourth Games.

Next month they are taking time off work to re-locate to Australia until April.

‘The main thing is for preparation for the Commonwealth Games,’ said Alison who is due to compete with the best bowlers in the world next week at the Potters Leisure Resort’s World Bowls Tour Championships in Norfolk.

She is entering the singles competition and will partner England star and former world champion Mervyn King in the pairs.

Hopefully, weather permitting, the match will go ahead she said yesterday, while keeping one eye on the forecast.

‘I feel pretty good after [winning] the club championships last weekend. That’s given me a boost.’
