Merrien in 10th
Monday 11th January 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
LEE MERRIEN said he was ‘reasonably happy’ with his 10th-place finish in the Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country on Saturday.
The Guernsey star clocked 30min. 22sec. for the 9km course in snowy Scotland to be the fourth Briton home in a race that saw a shock defeat for Kenenisa Bekele.
The world’s greatest-ever cross-country runner had to settle for fourth behind three Kenyans, with Joseph Ebuya claiming victory.
‘I was approx 60sec. behind the 10km Olympic champ and WR [world record] holder, so happy enough with that,’ Merrien posted on Twitter afterwards.
