ST SAMPSON’S Co-op has been busier in the past week than it was in the lead-up to Christmas.

Icy conditions from last Tuesday onwards meant islanders had been hitting the shop hard.

‘A lot of it is to do with the fact we are on the flat, whereas the St Martin’s Co-op is in the higher parishes,’ said produce supervisor Jenny Bachelet.

‘It’s been flat out every day.’

She said the store’s takings had been better than at Christmas.

Sales assistant Inese Sobolevska agreed. ‘When we put anything out, people buy it. All the time, produce is fresh.’

Mrs Bachelet said there were a few items that they had not been able to replace, but otherwise they had everything in.

Co-op chief executive Jim Hopley said in terms of keeping the shelves stocked, they were in a good position.
