Jeff StuartGUERNSEY’S men basketballers have a diamond opportunity to put their season back on track this weekend when they face the two teams that they have beaten so far this campaign.

The Greens have had something of a baptism of fire in their debut season in the national Division Four South West.

After winning their first two matches against Bristol Storm and Cornwall Cougars in October, they then embarked on a six-match losing streak.

They face Cornwall at the Polkyth Leisure Centre on Saturday before taking on Bristol on their home court at the Hamble Community Sports Centre the next day.

‘This will be a telling weekend for us as Cornwall and Bristol are teams that we have beaten already this season, but will be coming back at us with a view of turning us over,’ said Guernsey player-coach Jeff Stuart (pictured).

‘Coming off six straight losses is a difficult position for us and this is a key time in the season where we look to recover the second half of the games for the year and post some positive results for the island.

‘Two wins this weekend will give us the impetus to move forward and tackle the league leaders over the coming three months and it will be rewarding to finish the season by showcasing how far we have come as a unit.’
