JERSEY Scottish FC are appealing for financial support to help them play in the inaugural Clydesdale International Football Tournament in Guernsey next month.

Scottish Premier League clubs Motherwell and Hamilton Academicals are to play in the tournament at Foote’s Lane along with ambitious Sarnian newcomers Guernsey Athletics.

The tournament was officially announced on Monday, but Jersey Scottish was not named as the fourth side to feature because they do not yet have the money to support the venture.

Scottish coach Dave Kennedy said: ‘Obviously we’d love to take part in what is a very attractive tournament, but currently we do not have the funds to allow us to do so.

‘All our fund-raising is geared towards us playing our league matches at Springfield and that is the club’s priority.

‘The tournament organisers have offered us two nights’ accommodation and we are extremely grateful to them for that. Unfortunately, boat travel is not suitable on the weekend of the tournament so we have to go by air and that means £75 per person.’
