Airport security is stepped up

NEW security procedures have brought Guernsey’s airport in line with the UK’s.
The changes are the most significant since 2006.
Travellers can expect to see increased pat-down searches, more sniffer dogs in terminals and a step-up of hand-luggage inspections at UK airports.
Earlier this month the Government announced that it planned new safeguards such as full-body scanners in UK airports following the failed Christmas Day bomb plot.
However, Airport director Colin Le Ray said Guernsey passengers were unlikely to be unduly affected at present.
‘Given the passenger numbers that we tend to be dealing with at this time of year, we should be able to cope with existing security staff without any significant impact,’ he said.
